C-Pow Guides
Canadian Powder Adventures is a small, guest oriented business. We are committed to providing you with a unique experience beyond your expectations. One of the ways that we accomplish this is by involving highly qualified and very personable guides. The three people most involved in our operation are:
Mike Taylor - Owner / Operator
Mike has been working in the ski industry for 18 years, having worked at resorts in 5 different countries with experience ranging from repairing ski equipment to driving snowcats. Residing in Golden, BC, Mike currently spends winters patrolling at Kicking Horse 2 days a week, teaching avalanche courses, and proudly delivering guests to the best skiing he can find. Among his certifications are OEC first aid, CAA Level 1 and 2, telemark instructor, and (int'l) Ambassador of Good Times. He's also often heard singing and rocking out the acoustic at apres-ski shows in the local tavern.
Mike worked for CASA Tours in Chile and Argentina for eight seasons guiding multi day ski trips at resorts (and beyond them) in the Andes, and now spends summers closer to home working in the forestry industry. Free time is mostly spent recreating in the mountains of BC in one form or another; mountain biking, hiking, ski touring, and snowmobiling.
Chuck Gorton – Lead Guide
Chuck is the founder of Canadian Powder Adventures, and although he has passed the torch on to Mike, still continues to work as a guide. Chuck passionately continues his pursuits mountaineering and backcountry skiing in the mountainous areas surrounding Golden. His extensive 'adventure resume' includes; the 2nd ski traverse of the Northern Monashee Range, the Bugaboos to Rogers Pass ski traverse, over 100 days at Rogers Pass, among other expeditions in the Columbias, Rockies, and Coastal Range. Chuck has CAA Level l and ll Certifications, OEC first aid, and a degree in Kinesiology from the University of Calgary with a major in Outdoor Pursuits. Currently Chuck spends most of his boundless energy as the North American distributor for Snowpulse airbag backpacks, and running his store, Avalanche Safety Solutions, with his wife Jocelyn.
Ian Kirschner - Guide
Ian Kirschner is an avid backcountry skier and outdoorsman. He currently splits his time between guiding for C Pow, Chatter Creek Catskiing, and Mistaya Lodge ski touring. Ian also has an impressive ski touring resume, having completed several traverses in remote and heavily glaciated terrain. Ian's contagious laughter and passion for the outdoors are two of his qualities that make every day memorable for his guests. He has lived in Golden for 11 years, is a former senior ski patroller at Kicking Horse, and his certifications include ACMG Ski Guide, CAA Level l and ll, and OEC first aid.
